DIY Fabric Book Covers Under Construction Part 3

Just thought you would like to see the next batch of book covers "in the works" part 3.

To See Part 1 go here - DIY Fabric Book Covers Under Construction.
To See Part 2 go here - DIY Fabric Book Cover Under Construction Part 2

The top picture shows a sewn cover and a sewn pocket.   And the 2nd picture is measuring the inside fabric for the cover.

Here's a run down on what it takes for this 3rd  phase of making  fabric book covers and this is getting you to the finish line of a completed cover.

  1. Cut the inside fabric for the book cover.  I use white broad cloth.
  2.  Place the ironed cover face down on the broad cloth and cut the about 2 inches around the book cover .
  3. Mark the book cover with sewing lines and seams. Leave on the left panel seam, an opening of 2-3 inches.  Make sure you have the front cover image centered, for your marking.
  4. Mark the inside fabric at 8inches above the top of the cover.
  5. Place your cut ribbon face up and under the cover at the 8 inch mark.  Tape up excess length.
  6. Sew along the markings. Double stitch ribbon area.
  7. Iron the left seam along the seam thread.
  8. Cut the about 1/4 in  around the sewn piece. Angle cut at each corner tip.
  9. Turn the cover inside out and remove tape from ribbon.
  10. Iron the cover flat.
  11. Sew the 1/8 in down the inside panels.
  12. On the front inside panel sew the pocket
  13. Iron the panels flat and sew about 1/8 in along the edges.
  14. Pin the inside panels to the cover and sew 1/4 in round the entire cover.  Double stitch the ribbon area.
  15. Iron the covers and place a composition book inside.
  16. Place the ribbon inside the center pages of the book and close the book.  Trim the ribbon bottom at about 3 inches.  Burn the edge of the ribbon to seal it.
  17. With the book closed, bring the hair elastic to the front of the cover.  Mark inside the elastic for button placement.
  18. Sew a shank type or other type of button on your button placement marking.
Easy!!  Isn't it?  LOL!!

Below is a picture of a finished book cover.
